De \u00e4ldsta historiskt dokumenterade hamiltonarna levde i England och Skottland p\u00e5 12- och 1300-talen. Man har spekulerat \u00f6ver att de kan ha tillh\u00f6rt n\u00e5gon av de normandiska sl\u00e4kter som invandrade till England under tidig medeltid och allts\u00e5 ha haft sina r\u00f6tter i Norden. Geografisk Historik<\/h2>\n

Sj\u00e4lva namnet Hamilton kommer s\u00e4kerligen fr\u00e5n en f\u00f6rl\u00e4ning. Det finns ett stort antal m\u00f6jliga byar och platser som kan ha varit upphovet. Det var mycket vanligt att l\u00e4nsherrar tog namn efter sina l\u00e4n.<\/p>\n

Sl\u00e4kten uppdelades i m\u00e5nga olika grenar, som Hamilton av Deserf, Hamilton av Preston, Hamilton av Innerwick etc. En av grenarna uppn\u00e5dde st\u00e4llning som hertigar och tronf\u00f6ljare till Skottlands krona. Andra grenar levde i Skottland eller p\u00e5 Irland som gods\u00e4gare. Ofta fick s\u00f6ner som inte kunde \u00e4rva jord ta tj\u00e4nst som pr\u00e4ster eller milit\u00e4rer. Under 15- och 1600-talens krig p\u00e5 kontinenten var det dit m\u00e5nga skottar s\u00f6kte sig som soldater eller officerare med v\u00e4rvade regementen.<\/p>\n

Till de svenska trupperna ansl\u00f6t sig m\u00e5nga skotska krigare och minst ett 50-tal av dem bar namnet Hamilton. Tv\u00e5 s\u00f6ner till \u00e4rkebiskopen<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Malcolm Hamilton av Monea, Hugh och Lewis, blev svenska friherrar 1654 under namnet Hamilton af Deserf vilket \u00e4r en f\u00f6rvr\u00e4ngning av namnet p\u00e5 deras skotska stamgods Dalserf. Denna sl\u00e4ktgren dog ut under 1700-talet. En tredje broder, John, stannade som kapten i engelsk tj\u00e4nst men hans s\u00f6ner Malcolm och Hugo (Hugh) f\u00f6ljde farbr\u00f6derna till Sverige d\u00e4r de blev upphov till de \u00e4nnu levande svenska \u00e4tterna Hamilton.<\/p>\n

De svenska hamiltonarna beh\u00f6ll l\u00e4nge kontakten med sl\u00e4kten i Storbritannien, n\u00e5gra \u00e5terv\u00e4nde ocks\u00e5 dit. Men m\u00e5nga valde att stanna i Sverige d\u00e4r flera av dem fick h\u00f6ga milit\u00e4ra och civila positioner.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
